Vortex Labs ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your personal information when you use our website, our devices, our services, and the Vortex Labs mobile application for Android (package name com.vortexlabsofficial.device).
Sections 2 to 4 cover our website and orders. Sections 5 to 9 cover the mobile app specifically. Sections 10 onwards apply to everything.
We may collect information you provide directly, such as your name, email address, phone number, and delivery details when you contact us or place an order. We may also collect limited technical data such as your browser type and pages visited.
Our website may use cookies to keep you signed in and to understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings. The mobile app does not use cookies.
The Vortex Labs app lets you monitor and control your motorised valves and sensor units, either over the internet through our servers or directly over a device's own Wi-Fi hotspot. This section describes exactly what the app accesses, stores, and transmits.
The app contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking software, and no third-party marketing tools. We do not sell or rent any information collected through the app.
When you sign in, the app sends your username and password over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our servers to authenticate you. Your username and password are also stored on your own phone, in the Android system's encrypted storage, so the app can keep you signed in and renew your session without asking you to log in repeatedly. This stored copy never leaves your device except to authenticate you with our servers, and it is deleted when you log out.
To show and control your equipment, the app handles:
VA202601001)A copy of this device list is cached on your phone so the app still works when there is no internet connection. Clearing the app's data or logging out removes that cache.
The app does not collect your contacts, photos, files, calendar, microphone or camera data, advertising identifiers, or your browsing activity.
The Vortex Labs app requests the Android location permission (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION). We want to be completely clear about why.
Each Vortex valve and sensor unit can create its own Wi-Fi hotspot, named with a Vortex_ prefix. When your phone joins one of these hotspots, the app switches to controlling that device directly, without the internet. To do this, the app must read the name of the Wi-Fi network your phone is currently connected to.
Android does not allow any app to read the connected Wi-Fi network name unless it holds location permission. That is the only reason the app asks for it.
We therefore confirm that:
Vortex_The app explains this on screen before Android asks for the permission. You may decline it, and you may withdraw it at any time in your phone's settings. If you do, the app will continue to work normally over the internet; only automatic detection of a device's own hotspot will stop working.
The app connects to our servers to sign you in and to send and receive live device information. When you are connected directly to a device's own Wi-Fi hotspot, communication stays on that local connection between your phone and the device, and no device data is sent over the internet.
Your sign-in credentials are held in Android's encrypted storage on your own device. Your account details and device information are also held on our servers so your equipment can be reached when you are away from it. Our servers are operated on our behalf by our hosting provider.
Information stored on your phone is removed when you log out of the app, clear the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app.
Information held on our servers is retained for as long as your account remains active. You may ask us to delete your account and its associated data at any time using the contact details in section 13, and we will action the request within 30 days, or up to 90 days for complex requests.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it only with trusted service providers (such as couriers, payment processors, or our hosting provider) as needed to fulfil your order or operate our services, or where required by law.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. Sign-in credentials stored by the mobile app are protected using the Android system's encrypted storage. Account sign-in is carried out over an encrypted HTTPS connection. See our Data Collection Policy for more detail on what we store and why.
Our products, website, and app are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us.
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised, and material changes affecting the mobile app will be reflected here before they take effect.
